Deakin teams up with International Internships to offer a ‘Team Internship and Immersion’ program over the T3 period in Indonesia.
On this program students complete a three-week team internship in their discipline area in the bustling metropolis of Jakarta. Outside of work hours the program comprises of business, NGO and government visits, networking events and capacity-building workshops to help build a professional skill set.
Before the internship begins, students also spend a week in Yogyakarta, the cultural capital of Indonesia, participating in language instruction and cultural immersion.
Below are two student’s reflections on this great experience:
Emily, a Deakin Commerce/International Studies student, interned at the Victorian Government Business Office in Jakarta because she was interested in International Trade. She gained valuable experience in the government sector, learned cross-cultural communication skills, improved her communication skills with senior management, and learned about different working styles and different cultures.
“The experience was the best thing that I’ve done to confirm that I had chosen the right degree and that I want to pursue a career in that industry.”

Justin, a Commerce/Law student at Deakin, completed a Team Internship at Aryaduta Hotel Group.
“The program exceeded my expectations in leaps and bounds, more than I could ever have imagined. I wasn’t expecting all of the stuff on the side like the amazing networking events and trips away. It was awesome to be a part of it all. Also, the balance of autonomy and independence was like a hybrid of a professional uni trip and a chance to socialise.”
